American Express is expanding its airport lounge footprint once again—this time in Salt Lake City.
On October 28, Amex opened its newest Centurion Lounge at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), making it the first proprietary lounge by a credit card issuer at the busy Mountain West hub.
The opening brings the Centurion network to 31 locations globally. While SLC has long been a stronghold for Delta Air Lines and home to multiple Sky Club locations, travelers with eligible American Express cards will now have an alternate option for airport respite.
Nearly 18,000 Square Feet of Locally Driven Design
The SLC Centurion Lounge aims to stand out through regional design and access to fresh air, a feature rarely found in U.S. airport lounges. The nearly 18,000-square-foot space includes:
- An outdoor terrace overlooking the Wasatch Mountains. One of the lounge’s signature features is an open-air terrace with views of the surrounding ridgelines. The terrace includes a fireplace and year-round seating, giving travelers a break from the terminal environment.
- A 360-degree hearth room. American Express describes the interior centerpiece as a lodge-inspired lounge space anchored by a circular fireplace and surrounded by soft-seating zones. The area includes a locally woven art installation that echoes Utah’s natural landscapes.
- Locally influenced aesthetics throughout. From the materials chosen to the artwork displayed, the space is designed to reflect the region, unique from the more uniform styling common in many traditional airport lounges.
Chef-Driven Menus and Specialty Beverages
Centurion Lounges are known for elevating airport dining, and the location at SLC plans to do the same.
The Culinary Collective by the Centurion Lounge, a roster of Resy chefs that includes James Beard Award winners, will develop seasonal menus that rotate dishes.
A full-service Blue Roast by American Express coffee bar operates inside the lounge, serving espresso drinks, cold brews and seasonally changing specialty beverages. Complimentary wines, beers and cocktails are also core elements of the Centurion Lounge experience, though beverage offerings vary by location.
Premium Amenities for Work and Recovery
Business travelers and frequent flyers will find familiar Centurion Lounge features:
- Workspaces and private phone rooms
- Premium shower suites and restrooms
- Power and USB access
- High-speed Wi-Fi
The SLC lounge also incorporates recovery-focused wellness offerings, including Normatec compression boots and Hypervolt massage devices.
Lounge Access: Which Cards Qualify?
The lounge operates under American Express’ standard Centurion access rules. Entry is available to cardholders of the following (Terms apply):
Visitors must present an eligible card and adhere to American Express’ guest policy. Some cards offer a set number of complimentary guest visits or unlimited visits after hitting a spending threshold, while others charge a fee per guest the card member wishes to bring in. Day passes are not available for purchase.
Bottom Line
Travelers connecting through SLC now have a new lounge to explore—mountain views included. And for Amex cardholders in Utah, the airport experience may feel more like a high-altitude lodge than a busy transit hub.
