No-Annual-Fee Unsecured Path To Better Credit – Forbes Advisor

Tilt Motion vs. Chase Freedom Rise®

The Chase Freedom Rise® is another no-annual-fee unsecured card aimed at those new to or rebuilding credit. What makes it a better option for most than the Tilt Motion is that the Freedom Rise earns an unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase, and you have the ability to upgrade to the Chase Freedom Unlimited® after a year of good card behavior. The Freedom Unlimited earns even better rewards than the Freedom Rise and is one of the best cash-back cards available.

The Freedom Rise also comes with some nice benefits and extras, including purchase protection, extended warranty coverage and trip cancellation and interruption coverage. Although these perks alone are not enough to choose one card over another, they’re nice-to-haves that you won’t find with the Tilt Motion card.

Tilt Motion vs. Prosper® Card*

The Prosper® Card* is another option in the small handful of unsecured cards accessible to those without great credit. The card charges no annual fee in the first year, giving you some time to potentially use it to improve your credit so that you can qualify for a better option later. The Prosper card also will periodically review your account for credit limit increases, but it doesn’t offer a timetable for when that might happen. Since the card charges an annual fee in year two and beyond, doesn’t earn any rewards and lacks clarity around when your account might be reviewed for a credit limit increase, the Tilt Motion is the better choice between the two.

Tilt Motion vs. Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card

Even if you’re dead set against a secured card, you should know that some of the best cards for rebuilding credit are those that require a security deposit. The Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card is one of the best of the bunch in that category. Since the issuer has a deposit equal to the credit line you receive, you’re considered less risky to lend to, and so cards in this category may include perks like rewards and other beneficial features. The Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card comes with no annual fee and earns 1.5% cash back on every purchase and 5% cash back on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. That’s far better than the potential rewards on some spending you’ll get with the Tilt Motion card.

Card reviews for a higher line of credit automatically start in as little as six months, but what really makes this card shine is that over time with responsible use, your card could be converted to an unsecured account, which still has no annual fee and the same rewards rate. There’s no option to convert to a better account over time with the Tilt Motion card.
