The standard earnings on the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card are already high at 3%, but with this offer, cardholders can earn 6% cash back for the first year in the eligible category of your choice, 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs (up to $2,500 in combined choice category/grocery store/wholesale club quarterly purchases), and unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases. After the first year from account opening, earn 3% cash back on purchases in your choice category and 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs up to the quarterly maximum.
By default the category that earns the highest rate at 6% the first year is gas and EV charging stations. You can change the category once each calendar month, or if you don’t make a change, it will remain the same.
Updating your choice category takes just a few easy steps:
- Login to your Bank of America card account
- Go to your Customized Cash Rewards card account overview
- Click the Rewards tab
- Click the blue button to change the category earning the highest rewards to the right side of the screen
- From the popup select the category you want to earn the highest rewards or view category details to view purchases that qualify for bonus rewards
Don’t overlook that along with groceries, the 2% bonus category includes wholesale clubs, which are often excluded from bonus earnings. If you won’t meet the spending cap for the 6% categories, earning 2% for groceries and wholesale clubs is an excellent rate.
