Ameritas Dental Insurance Review 2025 – Forbes Advisor

While many competitors have waiting periods as long as 12 months for some types of dental services, Ameritas’ PrimeStar Complete has no waiting periods for its covered services. You can instead begin getting reimbursed immediately for the covered services.

We also like the plan’s hefty annual maximum ($2,500 in the first year and $3,000 after that). Competitors often cap coverage at $1,000 or $1,500 annually.

It pays to stay within the Ameritas provider network. Staying in-network results in a higher reimbursement. For instance, preventive care is covered at 100% in-network, while 90% out-of-network. In the first year, basic care like fillings are covered at 80% in-network and 70% out-of-network. The coverage increases in the second year to 90% in-network and 80% out-of-network.

Beyond PrimeStar Complete, we also think Ameritas’ PrimeStar Boost is an excellent plan. This might be a better option if you want a cheaper plan and don’t expect to need the higher annual coverage maximum found in a Complete plan. One thing that Boost offers that Complete doesn’t is that it covers orthodontia and teeth whitening. No matter which one you choose, you can’t go wrong with either of these Ameritas plans.
