American Express officially opened its first Centurion Lounge in Japan on July 16, 2025, in Terminal 3 near Gate 114 at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND). The lounge spans approximately 7,500 square feet, making it one of the more intimate spaces in the global Centurion network.

A Tribute to Japanese Craftsmanship

This opening marks Amex’s continued global expansion, offering premium lounge access for eligible cardholders both in the U.S. and abroad.

There are currently more than 15 locations in the United States, including major hubs like New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, and San Francisco, with international lounges in cities including London, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Mexico City—and now its new international expansion in Tokyo.

The interior, created by Amex’s in-house design studio OnBrand, is inspired by the traditional Japanese indigo dye “Japan Blue” and showcases accent materials like black ash, walnut, stone, and wood slats. Decorative elements include a chandelier inspired by Edo‑Kiriko glass, Edo‑style fabric motifs reimagining the iconic Amex bulldog as a shrine guardian (Komainu), and artwork such as Wajima lacquerware in support of Ishikawa earthquake recovery.

“The Centurion Lounge at Haneda Airport celebrates Japanese culture, featuring custom artwork, an exciting menu that showcases the flavors of Tokyo, and my personal favorite— private meditation booths to help you recharge and find some calm before your flight,” shares Audrey Hendley, President of American Express Travel.

Seasonal Tokyo Flavors Meet Lounge Service

The new lounge pairs its striking design with a curated menu of fresh, locally inspired cuisine. The lounge offers made-to-order sushi, ramen, and a seasonal Japanese-Western buffet under the direction of Michelin-acclaimed Chef Satoshi Ogino. A full-service bar provides craft cocktails, sake, shochu, Japanese beer, premium wines, and a dedicated wagashi sweets bar featuring regional confections and teas.

Aside from the array of food options, the lounge is also designed for both relaxation and productivity, including:

  • Private phone/meditation booths with ambient natural soundscapes
  • A comfortable room with a TV, couches, and group seatings
  • A VIP Centurion area with Kumiko woodwork, private beverage station, and premium décor
  • Dedicated workstations, high-speed Wi‑Fi, charging ports, shower suites, and premium restrooms

Cards Needed To Access The Lounge

You’ll need one of the following to access the lounge:

Cardholders can access the lounge within three hours of their departing flight. Entry is not currently available upon arrival.

Bottom Line

The new Centurion Lounge at Haneda marries elevated Japanese design and cuisine with Amex’s premium service standards. Its thoughtful features, from local food curation to calming meditation booths, offer a serene escape in one of the world’s busiest airports.

However, the lounge’s relatively modest footprint means that planning your visit, perhaps avoiding peak traffic periods, can make all the difference in enjoying the tranquil, upscale experience Amex seeks to deliver.
